Eric Johnson, Head Coach
Eric is a
native of Austin, Minnesota and a 1997 graduate of Austin High
School where he played hockey for Dennis Laumeyer (a cousin of
Jane Brown, coach Ron Brown's wife). He graduated from St.
Cloud State University in 2003 with a degree in Social Studies
Education. While at SCSU he coached youth hockey in St. Cloud
for three years, winning back to back District 10 Championships
and leading the 2003 Pee Wee A’s to a runner up finish in the
state tournament. He has continued a strong relationship with
St. Cloud Youth Hockey and expects his players to do the same as
they move from the youth hockey ranks into High School.
Eric is
currently a History and Psychology Teacher at Cathedral and John
XXIII. Eric spent the 2004-05 hockey season as an Assistant
Coach at St. Cloud Apollo High School. He has also coached the
2002-03 Section 2A/3AA Select 17’s, 2004-05 Section 8A/AA Select
17’s, and the 05-06 Section 2A/3AA Select 16’s.
He and
his wife Michelle currently reside in St. Cloud, and have a son
Caden. Eric looks forward to the
opportunity to build on a very successful tradition that has
been established at Cathedral over the past few years.

Ron Brown, Assistant Coach
Ron is going into his 27th year as an
assistant coach for Crusader hockey. During this time he's been
assistant to Jim Michaud, Todd Franke, Mike Antonovich, Kevin
Eckmann, Brent Boerger and Jon Voss. Currently he is the Crusaders
defensemen coach and is in charge of scouting opponents.
In 2002 Ron was inducted into the Hockey
Wall of Fame at the Municipal Athletic Complex. In 2003 the
Minnesota State High School Coaches Association presented Ron with
a plaque recognizing him for 25 years of service to high school
athletics. In 2006 Ron was given an award for 25 years of coaching
Cathedral Hockey.
Brown received a bachelor's degree from
St. Cloud State University. Ron has been to three state high
school hockey tournaments (1993-4th place, 1994-4th place), and
was named Section 4A assistant coach of the year. In 1999, Brown
was named Section 2A Assistant Coach of the Year by the Minnesota
State High School Hockey Coaches Association.
Ron and wife, Jane, are parents of four
children (all of whom graduated from CHS). In 1987, Ron and Jane
were presented the annual Golden Crusader Award for outstanding
service to Cathedral High School. And in 1997 the couple received
the Jim Michaud Award for outstanding service to Cathedral Hockey.

Tom Bruce, Assistant Coach
Tom has
grown up in St. Cloud and graduated from Apollo High
School. While at Apollo he lettered in hockey, baseball and ran
cross country. After graduation he attended Concordia
College to further his studies and play hockey. While at Concordia, the team
won the MIAC Championship and moved on to play in the Division
II National
Championships in Boston.
Tom
changed colleges to pursue a degree in Architecture at North
Dakota State University. While
there, he accepted a coaching offer at Fargo
North High School. His
three-year stint with Dave Morinville, current Moorhead H.S.
coach, produced three state tournament teams and the 1982 North
Dakota State Hockey Champions. While enrolled at NDSU, a club
hockey team was formed that Tom captained for two years and
guided them to the 1985 National Club Championship in
Huntsville, Alabama.
Tom’s
primary focus at Cathedral will be working with the forwards and
special teams along with overall skill development. Currently,
Tom and his wife, Trish, reside in north St. Cloud with their
two children, Briana and TJ. Tom is a Registered Architect and
Vice President of Design/Build Services for Winkelman Building
Corporation in St. Cloud.

David Erickson,
Assistant Coach
Dave was born in Roseau, Minnesota where
he played his high school hockey at Roseau High School which has
a great hockey tradition. He attended St. Olaf College in
Northfield, Minnesota where he also played hockey at the
collegiate level.
Since that time Dave has coached youth
hockey at various levels for Bemidji, Minneapolis West,
Minneapolis Southwest, and St. Cloud youth hockey associations.
He has also served as the volunteer goalie coach for the St.
Cloud State men's hockey team for three years.
Dave will utilize his coaching
experience by working with the goalies in the Cathedral High
School program.
Dave resides in St. Cloud with his wife
Jeanne and two daughters Kirstin and Hannah.

Mike Schmidt,
Assistant Coach Mike is in his
first year coaching Cathedral Hockey. He grew up and played
youth hockey in St. Cloud. Mike was a member of the first ever
St. Cloud Bantam team to play in the state hockey tournament. He
graduated from Cathedral High School in 2005 where he lettered
in hockey, baseball and football. Mike was also a part of the
2004 Crusader team that went to the state high school hockey
tournament. Mike was voted captain his senior year and was a
two-time recipient of the Keith Hoppe award.
Mike's primary focus this year is with
overall skill development of the players along with assisting
the Junior Varsity team. He currently resides in Collegeville,
MN and attends St. John's University where he is an Accounting
and Management double major. |
